Hello, and welcome to Poplar. Our teacher is Mr Leggett. Our Learning Support Assistant is Miss Newman.
After all our adventures in Year 3 and Year 4, Year 5 marks our transition into Upper Key Stage 2, which means there are higher expectations on us to ensure we are independent and responsible; we need to become role models for the younger children in the school!
We are ready to challenge ourselves in our learning, to work hard, and to show the right attitude that will help us to achieve our goals. This year we will be studying many interesting subjects. In geography, we will be learning about the seven continents of the world and the forces that ‘Mother Nature’ can unleash. In history we will be studying
Mayan History, and will get the opportunity to handle real Mayan artefacts, as well as dress, dance and sing like the Mayans when Mexicolore visit.
Alongside these, we will be further improving our English and maths. Using the basic skills, we have previously learnt, such as grammar, punctuation, spelling and timetables we will learn how to apply these to improve our writing and challenge ourselves in maths. We will also be reading plenty of books both at school and at home. We are developing a real love of reading, which may just help us win the Reading Race.
In Year 5, we are lucky enough to have the opportunity to go on a residential trip to Aylmerton. On this trip, we will be doing many exciting activities such as climbing the low ropes, watching the seals at Blakeney Point by boat and walking across the salt marshes in barefoot! We can’t wait!
We will be able to continue learning the musical instrument we learnt in Year 4 if we want to. And, we also get the opportunity to take part in Forest Schools. So much to squeeze in, so little time!
