    Woodhall Primary Governing Body 2019

I am delighted to be able to write this piece for the school website about the role of governors at Woodhall. I have been a governor at Woodhall for ten years and in the last three years have taken on the role as chair. The principle role of governors is threefold.

    • To ensure the clarity of the vision, ethos and strategic direction of the school in line with the ethos and values in Unity Schools Partnership.
    • To hold the Headteacher and senior leaders to account for the educational performance of the school and the outcome of its pupils.
    • To oversee the financial performance of the school and to make sure money is well spent.

The Governing body meet 6 times a year as a full governing body, where teaching and learning, progress and attainment data is discussed. In addition, there is a Resources Committee that meet once each term, this committee considers, financial premises and personnel matters in depth and makes recommendations to the full governing body. There is also a Pay Committee that meets once a year to discuss policies and pay for staff. All governors work together as a team with the Headteacher to ensure academic progress is made for pupils and that each child receives a broad and balance curriculum and an enjoyable and safe learning environment.

Governors also have specific responsibilities in line with DFE and Trust requirements and Academy priorities. These roles include governors who have responsibility for Safeguarding, SEN (Special Needs Education), Disadvantaged pupils, Maths English, Attendance and Mental Health. Governors attending school regularly for monitoring and individual governor visits. The Chair of Governors meets on a regular basis with the Headteacher to discuss the general running of the school.
