Year 5
Meet Our Year 5 Team
After all our adventures in Year 3 and Year 4, Year 5 marks our transition into Upper Key Stage 2, which means there are higher expectations on us to ensure we are independent and responsible; we need to become role models for the younger children in the school!
We are ready to challenge ourselves in our learning, to work hard, and to show the right attitude that will help us to achieve our goals. This year we will be studying many interesting subjects. In History, we will studying the Ancient Greeks and the Ancient Mayans. In Geography, we will be learning about biomes and how to read ordinance survey maps using four-figure and six figure references. In Science, we will be studying life cycles, the Earth and space, forces and properties of materials. In Art and Design, we will be learning about architecture design, as well as designing for other purposes, and will be developing our artistic skills. In Computing, we will be looking at programming, research skills and will continue to focus on online safety. In Design Technology, we will learn about healthier eating, bridges and structures, textures and pop-up books.
Alongside these, we will be further improving our English and maths. Using the basic skills, we have previously learnt, such as grammar, punctuation, spelling and timetables we will learn how to apply these to improve our writing and challenge ourselves in maths. We will also be reading plenty of books both at school and at home. We are developing a real love of reading.
We will be able to continue learning the musical instrument we learnt in Year 4 if we want to. Finally, we also get the opportunity to take part in Forest Schools.
So much to squeeze in, so little time!
